With the water temps on the rise and the calm seas we had nearshore this weekend it was only a matter of time before the Spanish Mackerel showed up. Today the Spanish Mackerel was all around the boat and even though the water temp was a little cool the fish were hungry. Thank you for trusting us to take you to the fish again.

Oak Island Fishing Charters Backwater Catching
With the tide right we are on the drum bite at Oak Island Fishing Charters over the weekend. Looks like the water is finally making the push to the ideal temps and the numbers of fish will only go up. Sure hope the rest of the week produces like the last few days. BTW Red Drum likes selfies also.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Red Drum Backwater Catching
Finally with steady weather here at Oak Island we are on good numbers of Red Drum. There will be better days and bad days but I will take everyday like today. We look forward to fishing with everybody and to help make memories with Oak Island Fishing Charters.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Weekend Fishing Report
Over the last several days we have been all over the place. Full days catching Wahoo’s and Half days nearshore with the blackbass along with chasing red drum in the backwater. Everything is starting to come together as the water warms up nearshore and the bait starts moving around in the creeks. Looks like no fishing till maybe the weekend as this next front passes but this past weekend was the kind of weather we all needed to get the bug to go fishing.
Oak Island Fishing Charters King Mackerel Beat Down
Finally got the weather to work in our favor to do a little Commercial King Mackerel fishing before Grouper season starts. The bite was very slow till 10am and without a boat around there was king mackerel all around the boat. For the next 2 hours Greer (cool runnings charters) and myself wore them out. 500lbs in 2 hours and lost about the same amount. Looks like Gulfstream trips and backwater till grouper season gets here (I cant wait for the grouper btw).
Oak Island Fishing Charters Grouper Fishing
Here is one of the pictures I got while they was tagging fish and sending to the bottom before released. They said video showed every fish fighting to be released once they got down. This could be the way of the future to release fish.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Backwater Fishing Report
Finally the water is warming up with the steady weather the last few days. We have gotten off to a slow start with the cold water but we are catching fish and it will continue to be an uphill climb. So it looks like the doom and gloom is over since we now have hope in catching fish in the backwater. Steady Red and Black Drum along with Flounder should keep getting better. Here is one of our pictures from the backwater fishing trip yesterday.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Grouper Mission
I know Grouper season is not open but Oak Island Fishing Charters is getting a head start or “practice”. Today we was joined by the Government to practice a new release method to study the survival rate. We caught, measured and tagged each fish. Not only did we catch Grouper but true 6-8lb trigger fish along with plenty of Amberjacks. Its nice to know they know who to call to catch Grouper and Im very grateful. Looking forward to many more adventures like today. Pictures and Videos when they are released.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Update
Just about time to take off the straight jacket I had to put on because of the long winter. On a good note the boats are all ready serviced, waxed and tackle ready to do work. The last few weeks we have run some half day nearshore trips catching Blackbass and Spiny Dogfish. The backwater fishing has been slow but the trips have been catching a few Red Drum. The good news is Winter is about gone!!!!! See you soon.
Oak Island Fishing Charters Nearshore Fishing Adventure
Finally got the itch to go fishing today with temps near 70 plus servicing the boat so it will be ready for the season. We decided to go catch dinner real fast while the boat was in the water. Black seabass are everywhere and very easy to catch all you got to do is put a piece of cut bait on as many hooks as you care to use and most of the time that’s how many you will catch. Anyway it was a great time on the water and Im about ready for a little King Mackerel Commercial fishing before the charters start up. Stay warm and see you soon.
