Oak Island Nearshore Fishing Report
The last couple days have produced Steady Flounder, Spanish Mackerel and Sharks. The fish are hungry so you get the right conditions right now you will catch plenty of fish from the Cape Fear Inlet to Lockwood Inlet.
Title says it all, today the Spanish Mackerel were so thick and hungry I dont know how you could not catch one. The really great thing today was I think we topped our best ever single day shark “catching”. After 3 trips and almost 12 hours of Shark fishing we caught 100 sharks. Yes you read that right we had a little spot that I could not even get the rod in the rod holder most of the time. I know a 100 is a lot to keep up with but when you have a brand new box of 100 hooks and have to call the 3rd trip off 1 hour early cause they are all gone that says it all. I will post pictures and videos later but they are starting to come in on our Facebook page now. Flounder fishing in the morning.
Finally the whole package is back again with Oak Island Fishing Charters. The flounder bite continues to be strong. The Spanish Mackerel we were catching during the blow last week at Carolina Beach looks to be off Oak Island again so thats a good thing also the sharks are hungry. Looks like a busy weekend catching nearshore fish.
The last several days has been a roller coaster ride as far as the fishing goes. The flounder bite has really picked with our backwater trips and on our nearshore trips we have been running to Carolina Beach to get into some protection from the SW winds. The spanish bite has been good if you get on the school of fish but can be very slow if you miss them but thats how fishing is anyway right? There is plenty of bait at Carolina Beach and the fish are definitely there. Also the Sharks are behind the Shrimp boats. Looks like we will be able to fish off Oak Island towards the end of the week. Even though it has been very nice at Carolina Beach once the winds settle I still might go that direction just cause the fish are there instead of taking a boat ride off Oak Island.
The last several days Oak Island Fishing Charters has been busy catching good numbers of Flounder between 3-6 pounds. We have also been doing well on Spanish Mackerel and Sharks while fishing in calm waters even though it has been windy off Oak Island. I will post some pictures when things slow down
Been trying to get a grip on the fishing the last couple days so here is our update for the last couple days. After the wind and rain tuesday fishing was hard on Wed. we did not get “skunked” but we came close as we caught some big Spinner Sharks. Today was looking worse but the Sharks made a strong statement that they are hungry cause we done good on both the morning and afternoon trip. At times there would be severel dozen on top of the water feeding like mad. Lets hope tomorrow will be produce.
The last several day has been great fishing on the nearshore trips. We have been catching Spanish Mackerel and lots of Sharks.
The last couple days Oak Island Fishing Charters has been catching a wide variety of Sharks and catching lots of them. Blacktips, Blacknose and Hammerheads have been most common. Check out this 2 min video of a big Spinner Shark.
The last couple days Oak Island Fishing Charters has been Shark Fishing and I am glad to see them. We have caught and released well over 50 fish in the last 2 days and the variety has been great. We have landed Hammerheads, Blacktips and Lemons. Looks like a great week to catch fish as the forecast is calling for calm seas all week.
Sorry for the delay in the reports but we have been chasing the Spanish Mackerel up and down the beach. They are thick one day and about gone the next but thats why the call it fishing. We have atleast been catching enough for everyone to eat dinner.
